Gabriella Du Plooy - Teresa Narduzzo painting review

Owner and Director of Zebra One Gallery, London/ / Managing Director of Women in Art

“Teresa Narduzzo is a contemporary abstract artist who captivates audiences with her mesmerising and thought-provoking creations. With a keen eye for composition and a bold approach to color, Narduzzo's work pushes the boundaries of traditional art forms, inviting viewers to explore the depths of their own imagination.

One of the most striking aspects of Narduzzo's art is her ability to create a sense of movement and energy within her abstract compositions. Through her careful use of brushstrokes and layers of paint, she captures the essence of motion, allowing the viewer to experience a dynamic and ever-changing visual journey. Her works seem to come alive on the canvas, as if they have a rhythm of their own.

Narduzzo's use of color is also noteworthy. She fearlessly experiments with vibrant hues and subtle shades, creating a harmonious balance that evokes a range of emotions. From the bold and energetic splashes of red to the calming and serene tones of blue, her color choices add depth and richness to her artwork, inviting viewers to explore the intricacies of each piece.

Furthermore, Narduzzo's approach to abstraction is truly unique. She skillfully combines elements of both chaos and order, creating a delicate equilibrium that challenges the viewer's perception of reality. Her art is a visual representation of the complexities of the human experience, capturing fleeting moments of emotion and translating them into powerful visual narratives.

In addition to her technical prowess, Narduzzo's art also carries a deeper meaning. Her abstract compositions serve as a reflection of the human condition, exploring themes of identity, connection, and the search for meaning. Each brushstroke and color choice is carefully considered, allowing her work to communicate on a profound and introspective level.

Overall, Teresa Narduzzo is a visionary abstract artist who pushes the boundaries of traditional art forms. Her captivating compositions, bold use of color, and thought-provoking themes make her a true master of her craft. With each new creation, Narduzzo invites viewers to embark on a visual and emotional journey, leaving them inspired and contemplative.“

Paintings by Teresa Narduzzo London

"I first discovered Narduzzo's work in her almost completely refurbished studio in France. The paintings had just arrived in the space and I was thrilled and honored to get to discover them in that context. I was struck immediately by the muscular beauty of the work and its epic scale. I found my reaction to the work visceral and intimate, although I had only just met the artist, something strongly personal was being expressed. I was moved. And each piece I viewed pulled me in further.

This artists' work impacts on a very deep level."

Statement:

Teresa Narduzzo has been a London based artist since completing her BA Fine Art Hons Degree at Winchester School of Art in 1984. In 1988 she took her MA in Fine Art Painting at Chelsea School of Art and was also awarded the Boise Travel Scholarship, spending time in New York studying the Abstract Expressionists of the 50's; a movement and era that inspired and informed her work.. Since that time Teresa has exhibited in mixed and solo shows in London and Europe where her work is in both corporate and private collections.

Over the last thirtty years or more, this artist has developed her own language of mark-making and application: Bold brush strokes displaying energy, power and freedom contrast with thick expressive slabs of palette-knifed paint. Heavily painted surfaces sit alongside scraped back areas which reveal the history of a piece. Delicate linear elements and scratched-in lines emphasise the scale and power of their surroundings while also at times refer to written or spoken dialogue. Abstraction in this form is a representation of the intangible experience, the gut response and in their actual making, with their interaction of colour, form, stroke, line, energy, these pieces create their own drama, perpetuating that which they also represent. Tension is omnipresent in this work and is the structure upon which this language hangs, against which it battles and alongside which it finds a place of ease.
